Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICTTEN311 - Inspect, clean and handle optical fibre cable and connectors

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare for fibre patching

  1. Obtain relevant legislation, codes, regulations and standards for the given work
  2. Obtain the design schematics and cut over sequence for fibre patching
  3. Discuss and record details of activities and work schedule with the relevant authority
  4. Work safely according to relevant safety legislation and company work practices, identifying hazards, including laser safety, dangerous materials handling and using personal protective equipment
  5. Ensure all tools and materials required for patching are available and in good condition
  6. Undertake an impact risk assessment, including customer impact risk and work health and safety (WHS) guidelines for the fibre patching requirements, and prepare any necessary notifications
